Anti-Illegal Immigrant Law

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, signed into law today Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the new anti-illegal immigrant law in the state, which has generated controversy and debate across the country. As such, the new law, which was passed by the state legislature in April of this year and now signed by DeSantis, aims to restrict illegal immigration in Florida and increase enforcement and enforcement of illegal immigrants.

In order to combat illegal immigration, the new immigration law brings with it determinations such as:

  • Restricts access to services, transportation, education, and health care for the undocumented;
  • Invalidate any driver’s license or ID card issued to “unauthorized immigrants” in other states;
  • Requires hospitals to collect information about patients’ immigration status on admission forms;
  • It establishes a “Homeland Security Oversight Board” composed of various state officials and law enforcement.

In signing the bill, DeSantis condemned the “Biden border crisis.” Scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2023, the law imposes penalties and restrictions on violators and represents the toughest crackdown on undocumented immigration by any state in more than a decade, according to analysts interviewed by The New York Times.

So, Florida’s new anti-illegal immigrant law has a number of implications for illegal immigrants living in the state. Therefore, one of the main changes is the requirement for companies and employers to verify the immigration status of all new employees before hiring them through E-verify.
